Atomistic Formulation of A Multiscale Theory for Nano/Micro Physics

Chen, Y., Lee, J.D. and Eskandarian, A. (2003) “Atomistic Formulation of A Multiscale Theory for Nano/Micro Physics”, IMECE’03 2003 ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition, Washington, D.C., November 16-21.

Abstract: Microscale and nanoscale systems and processes are becoming more viable in engineering applications. However, our knowledge of their behavior and our ability to model their performance remains limited. In particular, existing continuum-based computational capabilities are not applicable over the full range of operational conditions. Atomic models in term of many-body dynamics are not practical in modeling physical phenomena that involve length scale from nano to macro.
