On Micropolar Field Theory and Its Applications

Chen, Y., Lee, J.D., and Eskandarian, A. (2001) “On Micropolar Field Theory and Its Applications”, in Advances in Computational Engineering & Sciences (edited by Atluri, Nishioka and Kikuchi), Tech Science Press.

Abstract: This paper discussed the need of theory and simulations for material body of mesoscopic and microscopic sizes. An overview of polar theories was presented. The micropolar theory proposed by Eringen was introduced and compared with other polar theories. Finite element analyses have been performed for a few sample problems with wide range of length scales. Based on the discussion, comparison and computer simulations its unique feature and its applicability were demonstrated.
